Nokia and Apple have entered into a long-term patent cross-licensing agreement covering 5G and other technologies.

Nokia has announced that it has entered into a new long-term patent cross-licensing agreement with Apple to replace the current license agreement signed in May 2017 and expiring at the end of 2023.

New patent license agreement covers Nokia’s inventions in 5G and other technologies. The terms of the deal between the companies remain confidential, but Nokia said it expects to receive payments from Apple over several years and start generating revenue related to the new deal from January 2024.
The Finnish company also said its new deal with Apple is in line with its long-term outlook in its financial report issued on April 20, 2023.

Nokia Technologies President Jenny Lukander commented on the deal, saying, “We are delighted to be entering into a long-term agreement.” The deal reflects the strength of Nokia’s patent portfolio, decades of investment in research and development, and contributions to wireless standards and other technologies. ” consists of approximately 20,000 patent families, including his more than 5,500 patent families that are essential for 5G.
